Re: Wrong primary IP on vSphere guests

We are also seeing the same issue for multiple NICS on VM Guest.  Windows OS binding order is correct  as well as the summary info for the VM guest.......Note: I also hardcoded the Metric in Windows OS network connections and that did not make a difference.  Wonder if the VM HOST itself has a setting for the Metric ?

Has anyone discoverd a solution for this

Virtual Host WBEM Health Inclusion Status

Hi All,

I am wondering whether is possible to modify Virtual Host WBEM Health Inclusion Status (Include Status and Ignore Status options) via script.

In case of large number of VMware ESXi hosts it can be useful to automate mentioned settings.

Several systems not responding to snmp discovery

Hello --

I have been configuring snmp as well as installing the Insight Manager Agent software on our systems. However, there are three systems that have been problematic in that during the Discovery process, they do not respond to SNMP, and are therefore are in either an unknown or unmanaged state.

Two of the systems are Proliant DL360 G7 models, while the third is a Proliant DL380 G7 system. One of the DL360 systems runs Windows 2008 R2 Standard, while the other DL360 runs Windows 2012 R2 Standard. The DL380 system runs Windows 2012 Standard.

The built-in Windows SNMP service was activated and configured to go to the Insight Manager server on all three systems, and the service was restarted after the changes were made. The  cp026785 and cp026878 package files, which correspond to the Insight Manager Agent and WBEM software respectively, were subsequently installed on the systems.

When the discovery takes place all the Insight Manager reports in all three cases the systems did not respond to the SNMP protocol. I confirmed the community name was configured properly on the target computers as well as the Insight Manager server.

What would cause this problem, and how can I correct it?

Thanks.

Hello,

This could be a firewall issue is port 161 open on the firewall? Is the incomming part of SNMP configured ? Traps is an other part than reading SNMP. Traps: from server to SIM. SNMP polling from SIM to server.

Hello --

Thank-you for your reply. I checked one of the systems in question to test your theory, and its firewall has been turned off, so I am doubtful the firewall has anything to do with it.

A colleague of mine mentioned the possibility the ilO firmware on the three systems could be obsolete, and updating it on the three systems might solve the problem.

What are your thoughts?

Hello,

Updating ILO firmware should only help if your read the ILO SNMP, you talked about the Windows SNMP. What type of server are you trying to monitor? If the server is a Gen8 or higher you should use the ILO and AMS for monitoring. If your server is older than that you can use WBEM or SNMP agents? Can you post screenshots of your SNMP settings blurring the actual settings? So things like who can read the SNMP, most systems only have localhost as an allow host. Add your SIM server to the allow list and identify your server to see if this is the problem.

Upgrading HP Insight Manager from 6.3 to 7.5

Hi All,

We are trying to upgrade our HP Insight Manager version 6.3 in our live environment which is running on a physical Windows server 2008 R2 with DB running locally on the server to the version 7.5, the problem is the new upgraded server has to be a Virtual Windows server 2012 as the old physical server is out of support and all new servers have to virtual.

What would be the best way to proceed with this upgrade with minimum down time for the server.

Many thanks in advance for all your helps.

HP SUM deployment

I think HP SUM eliminates the necessity of having HP VCA on HP servers for updating Firmware and Software components in HP VCA/VCRM environment. Can HP SUM be installed on HP VCRM server and confgured connect to VCRM repository to pick-up the updates and install them on target servers. Note-HP VCRM running on separate server and not integrated with HP SIM.

Hello,

Why don't you run a fresh setup, export the nodes from the old SIM server to CSV and put this list in a discovery job? Use the old server credentials in the old SIM server to run the discovery in the new SIM server. What type of hardware and OS do you have in the SIM server? ( blades, DL, Windows, Linux and ESX)

Hello,

You can run HP SUM, you don't install HP SUM just as HP VCRM, you could point the SUM running instance to a VCRM repository but i'm not sure if the baselines get updated while HP SUM is running.

HP SUM is a deploy tool rather than a server based running piece of software running all the time.

Hi folks,

i have Insight Manager V7.5 running when i try running some tasks i get this "The agent does not trust the HP Systems Insight Manager server or the agent is not running. Establish a trust relationship or make sure that the agent is started." how do i do this & what is the quickest/best way to do it...?

i've tried creating a trust on 1 server then replicating it round to the other servers but i get "agent does not trust HP Systems Insight Server"

any help would be great thanks

Owen.

Hello,

If you want to run a replicate you need to have a trust, so that won't work for this problem. You should run a repair and only set the Trust option when you selected your servers with a trust issue. For this to work you need logon credentials on the destination servers. So first select your Windows servers do a repair with the selected servers with the Set trust option and give WIndows credentials for the repair. Then when done select your Linux servers and do the same and give your Linux credentials. If you have an ESX server most of them don't have a SMH so they don't need a trust.

Do you know where to find the Repair option ? It's in the same menu pulldown as the replicate.

Hi Andrew,

thanks for your reply, when i do the repair for the trust the only option i have is for a certificate trust which i selected but it failed,  am i missing something i have found using previous versions setting the trust by certificate can be funny so i usually do it by named server.

thanks

Owen.

did you use a credential set that works for that server ? Is it a Windows server? What is the error ?

when i run the task it says failed, yes the servers are all windows servers.

thanks

Owen.

andrew basically what i want to do is set disk thresholds, but i can't if the agent does not accept the request, it has actually completed on more server now so something has changed.

Running  Systems Insight Manager 7.4.0 - Windows

Can SSLv3 be disabled on this version of HPSIM?  If so how?

It could either of the following things:

Old versions of the SMH software, then try to update and compare versions.

Firewall between the servers or firewalls on the destination servers.

Sim can use 3 certificates, 1024, 2048 or 4096 bits, some versions of SMH only accept the 1024 (older) versions.

What is the error on the failing trust job and is your repair account on the target servers?

i believe port 445 is used for repairs, so also look for that.

Thanks. Appreciate if you could share any procedure doc link about pointing HP SUM running instance to a HP VCRM repository.

There is no official doc for configuring this, I've not tried this but if the VCRM auto downloads a complete SPP and you point your HPSUM to this directory i would yhink that should work.
