Hello,
Do you use SNMP or WBEM monitoring for your servers?
Hi,
I am pretty sure we use SNMP (I didn't set it up).
Thanks!
Look at the following menu option Options Î Events Î SNMP Trap Setting, here you can enable or disable specific alerts.
If you want to know wich mib you need look at the events and at the bottom it shows what mib created the event.
Thank you, Andrew.
While following the stated instructions for HP SIM 7.5.0 - Windows (build C.07.05.00.00r75rc01) : copy key to server/Deploy/License Manager/Add Licenses/Specify Path/Process ... After clicking Process I receive Msg from webpage:
"Unknown file processing error. Cause: the browser provided file processor has found an error and cannot continue. Check path and file content for correctness."
The path and file content are correct. HP SIM is installed on Server 2012 R2 and using IE 11. Same error using Firefox 43.0.4 . HPSIM is set as trusted etc., in both browsers. Have previously added licenses this way. Also tried to (re)install an old existing key to verify if the new keys were of wrong type etc., but rec'd same message. Not errors in basic Windows logs. Tried installing from different paths.
Is it Friday afternoon and I am missing something obvious or are there more sinister problems afoot?
Any help or suggestions appreciated. Thanks.

Hello,
Is that the HP SIM licence or an other like ILO or an other type of agent?
I normaly add licenses in the GUI, is this SIM or insight control?
Hi there
I am trying to install HP SIM 7.5. I had an old 7.1 installation I was trying to upgrade via 7.3 but that would not connect to the database, even though SIM was already using it.
So now I am trying another server, it is already running SQL 2008 R2 64bit for a Sophos installation. It will not connect to the existing SOPHOS instance, or create a new one.
The error is always:
Install Shell
Unable to connect to the specified host. Please check the Host,
Database and Pot values and be sure the target database is running.
Also be sure that the target database installation has the latest Service
Pack installed.
Any ideas? Getting pretty fed up with the SIM install, this is all it ever seems to do.
Thanks
Andrew
I am trying to add iLO license keys using the Insight Control gui.
Thanks

Hello All,
Is there any smart way to suspend monitoring for all VMware ESXi host Associations (VMs)?
We have some part of ESXi hosts that are used in VDI Environment (Client Desktop VMs) therfore monitoring is arranged by Central VDI Management Tool and is not needed by HP SIM.
We considered disable "Automatically discover VM guest(s) when the host is identified" option for group of hosts but can not find possibility to do that per VMware host. It is possible only as General Settings for All Discoveries.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.
For the sake of completeness we use HP SIM 7.3 with latest updates.
Hello --
I have completed the installation of Insight Manager 7.5 onto our Windows 2012 R2 Standard platform. I had several follow-up questions concerning its operation:
1. I added inbound and outbound rules to the Firewall settings on the server to permit TCP and UDP traffic over port 50000. This has enabled my being able to access the homepage from a remote server. Is there any other rule that I should consider adding to the firewall? For example, do I need to add a rule to allow the application its necessary access, or has that been done already be the installation?
2. I was planning on setting up a backup schedule for the database, and implementing this solution by using Ola Halengren's MaintenanceSolution.sql script. This includes jobs like reindexing as well as full, differential, and log backups. Is this overkill for the server? If so, would a periodic full backup and log backup be sufficient?
Thanks.
Finally I found in my HP SIM version 7.3 how to enable /disable "Automatic discovery of VM Guest(s)" per ESXi host ( not only globally)
Choose particular VMware ESXi host and then click on Tools & Links -> Configure Automatic Discovery Settings of VM Guest(s)
Automatic discovery settings of VM Guest(s) can be enabled/disabled on this VM Host.
check/uncheck the following option:
Automatically discover VM Guest(s) when this host is identified
Look here ! The link is for an old SIM version but the ports are still correct
Ok, so I went into the SNMP trap settings and selected cpqida.mib and then selected the trap name of CPQDA2ACCELBADDATATRAP and CPQDA2ACCELBATTERYFAILED and set the trap handling to no. This is getting rid of the events, but not the health settings. See the attached pic, which may help me explain. I click "all servers" in HPSIM and I see a bunch of warning signs under HS that are because of the battery.
Thanks
Hello,
This is correct, events is one tree and status is an other. The status is polled by a sheduled task that runs from the SIm server to the objects in SIM. So even if you disable or don't get the trap events the polling will still change because of the polling.
Now I am looking for solution how to set/modify via script option "Automatically discover VM Guest(s) when this host is identified".
Unfortunately I can not find appropriate syntax for xml file used for mxnode command.
Does anybody know how to enable/disable Automatically discover VM Guest(s) when this host is identified" Virtual Host (for example VMware ESXi host) option via command line?
Why dont you disable this option in the GUI this should also work in the CLI. So in the webinterface Options Discovery, Configure general settings and clear the Automatically discover VM guest(s) when the host is identified. option. I never have virtual server in SIm i don't see the need for them.
The preliminary idea is to have one group of VMware ESXi hosts that is responsible for VDI Environment with disabled option "Automatically discover VM Guest(s) when this host is identified"
For second group it would be handy to enable mentioned option to make sure that newly created VMs have been properly discovered in HP SIM. I am not sure when Associated VM Guest(s) list is updated. My assumption is that during re-identification process.
To automate per Virtual Host configuration for large number of VMware ESXi hosts I am looking for command line to make our live easier.
Could you solve this with by scanning specific ranges to discover the VMs and disable the discover vm when datacollecting the ESX server?
