I would always do a clean new install, leave the old server running, export and import your nodes and credentials.

If all goes well turn the old server off, leave it there for 2 weeks and then remove the server. If the new server is a virtual, it could help if you don't use the buildin SQL due to IO load issues, but depending on the size of your environment you could try to run it all on one virtual, the advantage would be that you can have a snapshot backup that captures all at once SIM and SQL.

SNMPV3 traps

Hello,

How to configure Onboard Administrator and HP SIM 7.5 with Insight Remote Support 7.4 to process snmpv3 traps ?

Currently On OA is configured SNMPv3 User with Engine ID From Enclosure (default settings)

In HP SIM is user with engine ID 1. . In wireshark i see that traps are delivered to HP SIM but are not processed.

For V2 traps with Community name traps are processed as expected.

Single server Insight install

Hello All.

I currently have one single Dell Server and One Single HP server. For Dell, I have installed Openmanage Server Administrator which is perfect for a single server install. I can launch it and see health status's of the Raid cards, drives, etc. Does not require a full blown openmanage install.

I am looking for somethign similar for my single HP server. I installed the System Management Homepage, but realzied I must need more.

Thanks for all help!

I was able to install wbem by installing the following software first:

cp02036, cp024845 cp025786, cp026226, cp026785, cp026878, cp026989, cp027014, cp027261, cp027682, cp027895. The error is really missing the ilo channel driver & other ilo drivers. Install these components, and you will be fine.

Thanks for your help.

I feel like i'm almost there, i've setup the trapsink on D2D device, using SNMP v1 i've set a straing of lets say TEST and HP Sim is set to read to Test on SNMP.

I've also downloaded the MIBs which look like they are a couple of years old (2014) but i followed the instruction to compile them etc, but when i check snmp trap settings, i can see SEMI-MIB.mib in the list, but when i select there no trap name, event type or the other fields.

Have i compiled them wrong? I did the following

C:\Program Files\HP\Systems Insight Manager\mibs>mcompile SEMI-MIB.mib

HP Systems Insight Manager Mib Compiler, Version 5.0.2.1

Ive attached a screen shot showing the SNMP details looking empty, if anyone could give me some advice

out of interest, have you tried loading up system management homepage on the server. If it loads all the details in the tope right corner you should see what protocol its using. Make sure this is using SNMP and not WBEM if you want to collect SNMP traps.

jim goodman wrote:

I did hear back - Basically it is kinda backwards from what I think it should be

The SSO is a SMH hosting the VCA to SMH hosting the VCRM

The SMH hosting the VCRM needs to have the SMH Certificate of the SMH hosting the VCA

So for every VCA you want to have SSO to VCRM, you have to add the certificate of the SMH hosting the VCA

It is a manual process so if you have 3000 VCA's you want to have SSO with the VCRM you will need to install each certificate for each SMH hosting VCA one at a time.

Looks like, the correct way to collect all certs from VCAs is mentioned in HP SIM as a Repair action:

"Import Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) certificate of the managed system to HP SIM.  This lets HP SIM trust the System Management Homepage of the managed system.  To run this option SSH service should be running on target systems."

Although I'm not fond of installing OpenSSH everywhere.

Hello,

Yes you need more software, this is called a WBEM collector or SNMP agent, the WBEM is more secure and preferred by HP

For your correct hardware type look here :

http://h20565.www2.hpe.com/portal/site/hpsc/template.PAGE/public/psi/selector/?javax.portlet.tpst=867000c4cf25636cc859bfdeb053ce01&javax.portlet.prp_867000c4cf25636cc859bfdeb053ce01=wsrp-navigationalState%3D_oid%253D241644%257C_op%253Dnavigate&javax.portlet.begCacheTok=com.vignette.cachetoken&javax.portlet.endCacheTok=com.vignette.cachetoken

Then select your OS, for Windows X64 you should download either this :

http://h20565.www2.hpe.com/hpsc/swd/public/detail?sp4ts.oid=4091567&swItemId=MTX_1bb0e7aacb72496eacfe62ff72&swEnvOid=4168

for the SNMP agent or this for the WBEM version:

http://h20565.www2.hpe.com/hpsc/swd/public/detail?sp4ts.oid=4091567&swItemId=MTX_c93c5f85ea0d471baddb6eadfe&swEnvOid=4168

Or if you can install a complete SPP (Supportpack for Proliant) this would be better as this will install the latest patches, drivers, firmwares and agents. This will cause downtime due to the updates in drivers and firmware. If you only want the System info the SNMP or WBEM agent should be enough.

Hello,

Just to ask the obvious, what version of the VCRM do you use on wich platform ?

Great manual..

I was successfull only by doing steps 3-5 right in Portecle.app.

Steps 2,6,7 aren't required if you work directly with existing keystore:

C:\Program Files\HP\Systems Insight Manager\config\certstor\hp.keystore

Discover windows VM host

HP SIM ver 7.5

I have added list of some known host into discovery. Discovery task showing following errors

********* Significant issues and overall target discovery/identification
status:
Major: The system cannot be identified properly for HP SIM to manage;
unable to get one or more of the following: model, serial number or
unique identifier (UUID). For management processors, verify the
system is running the latest firmware. For Linux based operating
systems, you must have dmidecode installed, enable the
PermitRootLogin and PasswordAuthentication in sshd, and use root
sign-in credential. For HP-UX, verify the sign-in credential. For
Windows, check if WMIMapper is configured correctly on the CMS and
verify the sign-in credential.
Normal: Identification status is only available for servers, workstations,
or desktops, where monitoring is enabled.

********* Additional results (listed for information only):

* Starting identification process...
* Checking for known running web servers...
* Checking for SNMP protocol support on system...
* Checking for WBEM protocol support on system...
Minor: This system does not have any SMI-S CIMOMs installed. No storage
systems will be found on this system.
Minor: The Central Management System (CMS) cannot communicate with the
CIMOM locally installed on the managed system using the WBEM
protocol, Identification will try to identify Windows systems using
the WMI Mapper as proxy; for Linux and HP-UX systems, check
credentials by going to Options->Security->Credentials->System
Credentials. For Linux systems also check if the HP WBEM provider
is installed.
* Running WBEM rules based identification...
Minor: Identification cannot get computer system hardware data from the
WBEM / WMI providers.
* Running Virtual Machine (VM) Host (non HP Integrity VM Host)
Identification...

Minor: The system responds to the HTTP request but cannot get the XML
output. It is normal for servers not to get the XML data.
Minor: If the http communication from CMS to target is working, but if it
is found to be slow then try increasing the Default connection
timeout parameter for http in global protocol settings.
* Running p-Class Identifier...

Minor: System Management Homepage (SMH) is not installed or is not
responding on the system(s).
* Running system Manage Communication diagnosis...
* System identification finished on system.

Am I missing on basic configuration?

To understand the issue more, are you trying to discover a physical proliant server?

Do you have snmp configured and or using wbem?
