Try to disable the nics with error as a status from ESX or disable them from the bios.

The localhost should be listen as a 127.0.0.1 adress in the allow list for reading SNMP info. The traps destination should list the name or IP of your SIM server and any other tool that you send SNMP traps to. Sending traps to the localhost had no function.

Hello,

I've given a switch SSH credentials before and have not seen any advantage to a switch having credentials in SIM compareerden to a switch that does not have credentials. The traps are and this events are to my opinion the only reason i have to add them to SIM. If someone had gotten anything more and i've missen something please give additionele information here...

That seems reasonable.  I just wasn't sure what information SIM could get through ssh as opposed to snmp.  I'll just disable ssh for my two ProCurve switches.

Thanks!

Andrew,

so theres no way of doing without logging in to the ESX box and disabling the NIC's? you don't just ignore alerts from that like you can with WBEM?

am i right in thinking you shouldn't use WBEM with Gen 8's as they the Agentless management system?

Ok does this means I will need to revisit each servers and then set the threshold or everything can be pulled by HP SIM in every servers automatically ?

Pardon me, because I'm still confused where to start in HP SIM server.

Sure you can ignore these errors ot filter them. But the server stays degraded that's my point.

As for the gen8 and 9 you are correct with the AMS agent

Great tip on checking resolution from the SIM server itself.  I ran out of options and said to myself "I can resolve from my workstation and it's the same DNS records (different server) as the SIM server is using" but why not.  Sure thing, the reverse wasn't resolving at the SIM server.  The reverse record was missing from the DNS server that the SIM was pointing to as it wasn't replicating properly with the other servers.

Hello,

No, you select your servers by hand or save a collection containing the servers you want to set a treshold for. Then select your servers and go to configure from the SIM menu, select Disk treshold and choose your criticals, resets and poll interfall for the group of servers you just made earlier.

If your DNS is a mess that won't help making things clearer in SIM certainly if you use ip ranges to discover your objects.
In this case the reverse DNS must be filled. SIM will work but complain about it but that's it.

Hi Andrew,

I've configured the SMTP and tested the email sucessfully.

I also created the new tasks through "Automatic Event Handling - Manage Tasks" but somehow it doesn't send out email immediately when there are some critical issue detected or listed in HP SIM, the Last Run status is still at Never.

How to configure HP SIM to send out email only for HP server maintenance that is expiring soon ?

People,

Using HP SIM v7.4 how to enable HP SIM to alert me when the server warranty is expiring soon in the next 30 days ?

I've configured the SMTP and tested the email it works fine but so far HP SIM is pretty much useless doing nothing after that.

Thanks.

Did you do a test email? Is this configured in the automatic event handeling? It looks like you did but just to be sure. You could try to send a trap test from one of your servers to see if you see that event in the collection Important events.

You say not immediately so you do get events but later? If i read your last linre the task says never, is there an other task that was triggered? I always also clear an event that is emailed so i can see if an event is handeld.

Also be aware to save a task under a "service account" instead of your own, if you delete the account that created tasks they also get deleted.

This seems to be the same as the other two questions? Like the other reply look if no other task is triggered by the events and look if the collection you use has any events. By the last thing i mean events not status. You could use the test trap test from any agent to test your setup then progress to the warrenty collection.

Strange behaviour in HP SIM VCRM while assigning servers to Baselines

Hello Guys,

I have HP SIM 7.3 in my environment as well as HP VCRM. I have a single SPP (2015.04.0) in the repository. Whenever I assign a server to this baseline in the "Manage Software/Firmware Baselines" section in HP SIM, the software status changes to unknown instead of changing to traditional status icons (Orange, Yellow, Green). Earlier, I had SPP (2014.09.0) in the repository and assigning a server to this baseline would return appropriate status depending on the installed software or firmware versions. I have tried installing a firmware using Install Software and Firmare option in HP SIM using the repository (SPP 2015), and it works perfectly fine. And I think "Update Systems to Baseline" will work too. The only problem I am facing is that servers assigned to the baseline (SPP 2015) are unable to update their software status in HP SIM.

Since this is my first post in the forum, I may have failed in providing a lot of information. So please let me know if I have missed out on anything.

Kind Regards,

Khalid

Thanks Andrew.  I had an old registration key, and used that and it worked.
