Do you know if you have to use wbem to collect data from the hosts, or can you use snmp. As for some reason i've not managed to WBEM to work even on windows boxes, but snmp data works fine.

Hi Andrew,
Thanks for the reply.
The HP servers are ESX hosts configured with WBEM, which appear to be working fine as far as status of the various components. But....no alerts. The ILO's are configured to send snmp traps to SIM via snmp. When I look at each host thru Configure -> Manage Communications, it thinks evry thing is fine, Identification and Events have a green check mark.
Hi all,
this worked for me....
install SMH + VCA new --> Quick Launch --> System Credentials --> edit system credentials --> Singel Sign On -->set Trust relationship to trust by Certificate
have a look at Tasks &Logs in HP SIM--> view Tasks results --> System credentials -->
Set Trust relationship to "Trust by Certificate"
Set Trust relationship to "Trust by Certificate" ................... [SUCCESS]
Added this instance of HP SIM to the trusted certificate list for System Managem
ent Homepage 2.0 or later.
Successfully restarted necessary management applications to ensure that all succ
essful changes will be effective.
Re-identifying system to get updated information ...
Re-identification of system .................................... [SUCCESS]
Checking whether the HP SIM CMS can login to the SMH URL " https://servername:2381/ "
Login to the SMH using certificate.............................. [SUCCESS]
After this have a look at the identify task (it is auto started if you store the trust in credentials section and should look like this
Normal: The trust between the CMS and the managed system is established.
* Running system Manage Communication diagnosis...
* System identification finished on system.
Now you click in SIM to Deploy--> choose your System to Update --> Software / Firmware Baseline --> assign to Baseline --> Update to Baseline
I used SMH 7.5.0.4 and VCA 7.3.5.0 to deploy SPP 2015_04 and HP Insight Control 7.4 with actual Hotfixes from May 2015.
Andrew,
So i've never got wbem working properly. I always thought it was a firewall issue, but i have wbem ports open.
When i do discovery on a server with WBEM, windows or ESX it never finds anything. And when you looks at the managamenet protocols it never shows WBEM as an option. Can you think of something that is missing?
You say you need root for teh subscription. to use the root access do you need to enable SSH access and then do a discovery with an account with root access. Once its discovered do you need it to permently use root access to check the updates. or is it just for the subscription and then you can stop ssh to the esx host?
p.s. i'm running esx 5.5
Andrew,
wouldn't you knowit. I've just done a discovery and its worked :)
a couple of issues i can see now
1. Under health status i can only see a green tick next to ping. I was hoping see everything like when you use SNMP and it shows storage, nics etc, do you not get this with wbem, and it you don't. When a disk fails will it show? or is it not managing hardware faults?
2. I've noticed that HP SIM has now found the VM's running on it. We already hve monitoring tools on the VM's so I don't need any more for the VM's. So is there a ways of monitoring the ESX Host without it showing you the VM's running?
3. Obviously you don't have root access in windows, so to run WBEM on a windows box, do you need just local admin rights when running the discovery to pick up WBEM?
Thanks

It should show the component like how you see snmp. the HP Providers is what SIM talks to when monitoring. Do an options > Data collection to see if that works correctly for that host. Also do a hw/sw status polling when data collection finishes. If you want hardware wbem issues to be received by HP SIM, do an options > Event > Subscribe to wbem events.

You will need to disable sim from picking up the VM when a VM host is discovered option. Option > Discovery > Configure general settings (hyperlink) > Uncheck {Automatically discover VM guest(s) when the host is identified.}

Yes
Running SIM 7.4 on Linux. Somehow I have two objects for the same device. How do I pair that down to one?
We have faced similar issue, following will fix the the issue.
Reinstall HP Insight Management Agents
http://h20564.www2.hp.com/hpsc/swd/public/detail?swItemId=MTX_f33486c6dab6413380ab3afa69
Ensure that the SNMP service is installed then open it’s properties. On the Traps tab enter a community name of your choosing, the typical names are “public” and “private”, public being read-only and private being read-write. Make sure that the loopback address is added to the trap destinations area. On the Security tab enter the community name you just created in the accepted community names box and set its permissions to READ WRITE. Ensure that traps sent from the localhost are allowed to be received. Restart the SNMP service which will also restart all of the HP management agents.
SIM 7.4 says ssh does not work to a ProCurve 2910. I have given it appropiate credentails. I can ssh to the switch from the SIM server. I think SIM might be having a problem because the switch prompts you to hit any key after entering the password. Is there someway to avoid this?
Hi,
This server does not support Windows Server 2012. Max it supports Windows Server 2008 and 2008 R2.

You may try to download and install this new version of the same file, if the server/OS accepts. 10.20.0.0(15 Jun 2015)

Thank You!

That did seem to fix it. If you don't hear from me, you can tell other folks that the new file works on DL360 G5's!
Thanks.
Brad,
I get alot like this, 1 for the server IP address and another line for the ILO. I normally just label the the ILO as the same name "servername - ILO"
if you you have 2 for the servers IP but that server has multiple IP's you may find deleting both lines and then do a rediscovery on 1 of the IP's and this time it shoudl only create 1 with multiple IP's
No doubt someone more experienced than me should give you a better answer.
finally getting somewhere with this. I've managed to get ESX on WBEM and have stopped discovering of VM's
Next question, we have quite a few hosts that have some nic adapters not being used. I can see how to exclude warning for WBEM, but i have some DL380 Gen8's which the agentless management has also picked up some NICs not being used, and has flagged them as faults in HP SIM. How do i get HP SIM to ignore alerts from SNMP / ILO for NIC cardsnot benig used.
Thanks
