Hi

yes, hpsim-ds.xml file have been modified and it"s the only file, no copy/no backup

FYI i did not find how to run the command

Automated re-registration of a database by executing the mxreconfig command

mxreconfig -m sqlredirect -s dbserver -b dbname -a dbuserDomain\dbuser -p dbport

>mxreconfig -m sqlredirect -s SRV\Instance -b I

nsight_v50_0_165528150 -a DOMAIN\USer -p 1434
This command will update Insight Management to use a new MS SQL database. Before
continuing, be sure you have performed the following steps:
1) Stop the Insight Management services with the command 'partnerservice
-stop all'
2) Be sure the new database is up and running, and that you have adminis
trative access to it.
Continue? (Y/N): Y
Enter the password for the database account "DOMAIN\USer":
Error from MxReconfig: Incorrect DB User ID or Password. Modifying DB credential
s in sqlRedirect mode is not supported. Please provide the current DB credential
s of the Product and try again.

regards

Hello again, From the PDF : source : http://h20564.www2.hp.com/hpsc/doc/public/display?docId=emr_na-c04453319 Exporting data from a CMS 1. Before data can be exported, the following requirements must be met: • Determine if enough disk space is available on the CMS. This is dependent on how much data is contained in the database. • The source server has HP Systems Insight Manager 6.3 or later. • The mxexport command must only run after all tasks and jobs such as, discovery tasks or scheduled tasks, are completed. 2. To export your data, enter the following CLI command: mxexport Specify the password as part of the command or you will be prompted to enter the password. The password must be a minimum of 8 characters. This password is used to encrypt the exported file for security reasons. The password you enter here will be required to import the data. • -f is optional. If you do not pass the filename, a Products.zip file is created in [HPSIM]\data\configdata-export.

HP SIM Self Monitoring - monitoring the monitoring

Can anyone help me understand what available solutions there are for this scenario, prefereably in-built to HP SIM itself. We will soon be deploying HP SIM to monitor a number of DL380/560 servers and all notifications will go via SNMP to an NMS, whilst the NMS is receiving SNMP notifications we can relaibly interpret that HP SIM is working ok, i.e. polling the server agents/iLO and forwarding issues via SNMP, but what about the scenario where we at the NMS we have not received any notifications for 30 minutes - is this because the monitored servers are behaving themselves (no traps to send) or is it that HP SIM has died?

My initial thoughts would be that you could configure HP SIM to send a regular "I'm alive heartbeat" message but I have not been able to read anything on this or indeed any other solutions to this issue.

Mark.

Hello,

You could do a check for the port 50000, if that responds you got a hint that SIM is up.

We run a https://simserver:50000 check and see if the page contains the words Insight Manager and run this check every 15 minutes.

Resize OS Name Column

Hi

I run HP SIM 7.4 Update 1 and I have this little problem.

When I display a list of Microsoft servers I cannot see the name of the OS for my servers (see screen shot attach)

It show only part of it and hide the important information which make this column useless.

Is there any way to resize this column to show all the information

Thank you

Hello, You can move fields as you will but the field stay the fixed size. I've worked around this problem bij creating collections for OSses and their versions. If you need help creating the collections let me know.

Ok thank you for your answer, I'll use your workaround

I hope HP fixe this in futur release

Don't hold your breath, HP has named HP Oneview as the replacement for HP SIM so don't expect any major changes, only bugfixes and future Gen suport untill Oneview can fully replace HP SIM.

HP insight Management Agent

Hello,

I am trying to upgrade the HP Insight Management Agents on our servers...

When I run the inventory using Microsoft System Center Configruation Manager 2007 I found out there are several Agents and several location for them:

Hardware Inventory collects:

HP Insight Management Agents

Software Inventory collects:

HP Insight Management Agents

HP Insight Management Agents for Windows Server 2000/Windows Server 2003 Package

HP Insight Management Agents for Windows Server 2003/2008 Package

HP Insight Management Agents for Windows Server 2003/2008 x64 Editions Package

HP Insight Management Agents for Windows Server Package

HP Insight Management Agents for Windows Server x64 Editions Package

I found several of these agents installed on the same server... what is the differences between these agents?

What are the current version of these agents if multipels?

Should we keep several Agent on the same server?

E.G.: Very often the folowing two agents are installed on a unique server:

HP Insight Management Agents

HP Insight Management Agents for Windows Server 2003/2008 x64 Editions Package

one is in the Add/Remove Program and on the drives ("C:\Windows\System32\CpqMgmt\cqmgserv") -

(HP Insight Management Agents) and the other one (HP Insight Management Agents for Windows Server 2003/2008 x64 Editions Package) is on the drives... They have also different versions one could be 9.10.0.0 and the other one 9.20.0.0... what are their roles? which one is giving the version of the products? Which one(s) should be updated?

What is exactly the infrastructure for these agenst?

Thanks,
Dom

The insight management agent is a piece of software that is used to collect Hp system information to be showed in the System Managent Homepage and this set together with the systems SNMP stack files shows you insight in the system health. There should be only one version installed for Windows 2003/2008 or Windows 2012 in a 32 or 64 bits version dependentie on your os. There are also agents for Linux variations, esx and even open vms. Depending on the Age of the hardware you can install the latest supported version for your hardware. You can fond these agent on the HP website, ne sure to select your hardware type and the latest for that hardware should work just fine.

Most people use HP SIM for managing the servers but you can use any software that Will read the evenlog of your servers. The advantage to using sim that you can manage configure and deploy the software. Your can also use Hp Sum for deployment.

There also is a new piece of software that will replace sim called Hp oneview.

For Gen8 and Gen9 servers it is usually enough to register ILO to your SIM in order to monitor them, regardless what OS is running.

Yes I am able to detect the server using ilo

but what about the software verification and pushing updates ?

Is it possible to check the software version on an Hyper-V server ?

I think I need the VCA agent running on the server to do that, how can I run the VCA agent on a server if it does not run Windows ?

Andrew,

I've managed to get 1. working now, it was like you said, but some reason this 1 ip address wasn't linked to the server line, it was linked to something else.

i removed both lines from the DB and then discovered it again and its now ok. as all the ip address came up in the 1 line, and i was able to select the primary ip as the management port.

2. These servers i'm unable to get SMH working on, and i can't disable theports in teh O/S is there a way of ignoring certain alerts in HP sim for certain servers. i.e. in this example, can i ignore the alerts for NIC's on this 1 server. So i'll get any other alerts.

Thanks

Thank you for these information.

but how I have two items on the same machines:

Hardware Inventory collects:

HP Insight Management Agents: 9.30.0.0

Software Inventory collects:

HP Insight Management Agents for Windows Server 2003/2008 x64 Editions Package 9.10.0.0

I have some machine:

Hardware Inventory collects:

HP Insight Management Agents: 9.30.0.0

Software Inventory collects:

HP Insight Management Agents for Windows Server Package 10.20.0.0

HP Insight Management Agents for Windows Server 2003/2008 x64 Editions Package 10.20.0.0

 I have on another machine:

Hardware Inventory collects:

HP Insight Management Agents

Software Inventory collects:

HP Oneview SCOM Integration Kit 2.1.6

For HP Oneview is it HP Oneview SCOM Integration Kit 2.1.6 the replacement of HP Insight Management Agent?

Thanks,

Dom

Hello,

For software verification you would need the AMS agent, i'm not sure if that works on core but you could give it a try. This is only for verification. I would use Hpsum remote to update the server.

You can, this would involve creating collections of servers and combine then with certain event collections. With these collections you can create email allerts that would get send to you. Thee status of thee servers however would stay degraded and this is quite a downside to my opinion.

Hello again,

I would uninstall all the agents, then install the WBEM agent. Don't install the management agents as the WBEM agent replaces this bundle by one agent and the WBEM version is the one HP Will support and WBEM is more secure.
