Andrew,

Just to add to that, i've just tried logging as my domain admin account, but still unable to connect to the vcrm on the same server. Should i be putting the server name in full, or should localhost work?

Or should i not need the VCA on the same server as the VCRM and HP SIM?

Thanks

You can use the SIM/VCRM and VCA all on the same server this should be no problem. I've also got that combination of packages on the SIM server and i works just fine. Could you post a screenshot of your settings and error you get ?

What version of VCRM ,VCA and SMH do you use ? This could be the problem if the VCA is older it can't connect to the SMH to in it's place connect to the VCRM. The SMH could be higher that the VCA then you can run into problems.

A combination that works is:

VCA : 7.3.4

SMH: 7.4.0

VCRM:7.4.1

There are more combinations that work but at least keep the VCA on the same or higher version than SMH.

I looked at the VCA version, this is the latest version so you should be able to connect to your VCRM. The error you post says the repository is not named so i could think of resolving but then the localhost should work. Could you post or email the error screen ?

Event Severity Built In Alerts

Hi All,

I know you can change the event severity for some alerts by changing the MIB/Trap settings.  My question is, can you change the event severity for generated by HP SIM?  For example, if a data collection retries HP Insight Manager generates a minor event.  I'd love to be able to change an event like this to informational.  Ideas?

Hello,

If your goal is not to receive alarms for these event you can use the same methode as i did. Create a custom event collection and make it to show all events except the internal events and use that collection to e-mail or forward to an other system.

Version Control Respository Manager - "The specified repository is invalid or not reachable"

I've been racking my brain on this one.  I set up VCRM on a server a few months ago and was getting "The specified repository, [server], is invalid or not reachable".  After a couple of months of research, I find a post that suggests doing these command lines:

C:\HP\hpsmh\bin>smhconfig.exe -Z ALL:!ADH:!EXPORT56:!EXPORT40:DES-CBC3-SHA:RC4-MD5:RC4-SHA:RC4+RSA:+HIGH:+MEDIUM:-SSLv2:+EXP:!LOW:!eNULL:!aNULL

C:\HP\hpsmh\bin>smhconfig.exe -r

At first, this didn't seem to work.  Then one day it did and the server was working fine for a few months.  Now I'm getting the same error message.  The above fix does not work.

Tried installing on different servers, no luck.  Checked firewall, no change.  Tried IP and fqdn.  Made sure have latest SMH and VCRM.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Hello,

You should install the latest VCA to connect to the VCRM. This because of the encription problems between the older VCA and the between SMH. VCA first connect to the VCRM trough the SMH of the server it wants to get the baseline from.

Thank you very much for this solution. After changing the service account password the connection was permanently refused by the SQL server...

I was a bit suprised that a special tool is needed to change SIM account but your solution worked excellent.

Use the Using Username and password option not the certificate option in the credentials on the VCA settings

When I try and install HP Insight Manager 7.4 on a Domain Controller running server 2012, I keep getting the following  error. All pre-requisites are installed. Can anyone help in getting it installed or am I using the wrong product.

HP Systems Insight Manager Installer detected an unsupported operating system. For installation to proceed further, you must have a supported operating system. Refer to the HP Insight Management Support Matrix to review list of operating system requirements.

Thanks

Bruce

Hi Bruce

The error that you are seeing is because you cannot install Systems Insight Manager on a Domain Controller. As part of the installation you have to install SQL Express and Microsoft recommend against this.

https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/2032911

If you have another server you can run it on, then you will be fine.
