Re: Use Amplifier Pack to completely replace SIM?

I installed the Amplifier pack and did some basic evaluation.  Here is what I found:

  1. No ability to receive SNMP traps.
  2. No ability to use selected alerting to different individuals.  Its all or nothing.
  3. The authentication to the iLO is sketchy...I used my LDAP credentials, which has rights to the ilO, to add it to AmpPack, but how does that work in the long run?  What happens when I change my password?  Can i continue to monitor it?  If so, how then does it authenticate after the initial discovery.  I could find no place to update my password for the objects that were discovered using that account.
  4. I have not had a chance yet to simulate a failure (like pulling out a drive or power supply) so I dont really know if the alerting even works and how the format of the email is.  The HPE SIM SNMP emails are atroscious.  So anything would be better than those I suppose.

On the plus side:

  1. LDAP connection setup is seamless.
  2. Changing the default SSL cert is easy.
  3. The initial setup is simple and quick.
  4. The interface seems pretty fast.
  5. The server groups are a nice, I guess, but with no way to tie the alerts from the servers in those groups to unique individuals, it is not very helpful for what I am looking for.  I suppose one would use server groups to deploy firmware in mass to a group of similar servers.

I guess the bottom line is this is just a tool to update the firmware on servers in mass and I suppose potentially view the heath status of the servers from one pane of glass.  But, I dont want to get alerts from a bunch of servers my team members support that I dont.
