Sign-in credentials are used by all objects that respond to the following protocols: WBEM, WSMAN, and SSH. (not sure on WSMAN as i don't use this protocol)
So the problem i see with this that Windows credentials are also tried on Linux and ESX servers, so i set credentials in Discovery jobs instead of in the general settings. People complained that the logging on server get spammed with wrong credentials like Windows credentials on Linux/ ESX server and root accounts on Windows servers.
